Whale watching safari
Join us on a whale watching safari with a chance to see humpback whales, killer whales, porpoises, and fin whales.
Tromsø Friluftsenter no longer offers whale watching directly, but our trusted colleagues from previous years maintain the quality we desire and will take you to the places where you can see whales. The motor catamaran M/S Gabrielle departs from Nerstranda. Sit back and enjoy the journey along the beautiful coast up to Skjervøy, and remember to savor the light during the polar night that adorns our sky. This activity is for those who prefer to be on a larger boat.
From late October to late January (approximately), some of the world's largest mammals visit the coast off Tromsø to feast on herring. Common whale species we encounter on our excursion are humpback whales, killer whales, porpoises, and occasionally fin whales. You're invited to come on board for a closer look at the whales' feast. When we've located the whales, we stay in their vicinity for 1 to 1.5 hours.
The ship provides excellent opportunities for taking photos and offers a comfortable sightseeing experience. MS Gabrielle has an onboard kiosk where you can purchase coffee/tea, mineral water, beer, wine, as well as snacks and light food.
