Whale Safari with Catamaran & Marine Biologist

Explore the fjords by boat and enjoy the breathtaking scenery. The most common whale species are humpback whales and orcas, but there are also chances of seeing fin whales and possibly harbor porpoises and other species.

One of the exciting and challenging things when you work with nature and animals in their natural environment is that we must be prepared to adapt to their needs – whether this is the magical Northern Lights or the magnificent whales.

Due to the changing migration and feeding patterns of the whales, we have had to adjust our tours in order to give you the chance of seeing these magnificent mammals.

The herring, which is the whales’ favorite meal and the reason they are here, have changed their location of arrival. Therefore, instead of coming in the fjords alongside Tromsø like they used to, they are now coming in the fjords alongside Skjervøy, just north of Tromsø.

Because of this, we have had to adapt all our whale tours to enable you to see the whales in their natural habitat.

Skjervøy is a small village north west in the county of Troms, approximately a 2.5 hours’ drive by boat or 4 hours by bus. In the winter months, the driving conditions can be challenging and tiring so we have decided to bring in a larger catamaran in order to reach the Skjervøy whale area quickly and in a more comfortable fashion.

Our philosophy has been to take tours with small groups with smaller vessels to give a close and personal service. We have had to adapt this in order to bring in a large enough vessel that can get to Skjervøy quickly, as well as being safe in the arctic weather conditions.

To be able to offer the fantastic experience of seeing the whales, we have joined in partnership with two other companies to be able to offer you a tour that is safe, enjoyable and within a reasonable price.

We have, in partnership, brought the MS Tidelyn to Tromsø, which is a catamaran with place to 125 passengers. We will depart from Tromsø city harbor and cruise north at 25 knots which will bring us to the whale area in about 2.5 hours. We will have, as we have had on all our tours, a Marine Biologist on board to provide information on the journey. Your safety is our number one priority, therefore you will also receive a safety briefing on board, and we do recommend that you dress extra warm, so you can be outside to witness the whales for the time we are up in the area. Once we have reached the whale area we will do our utmost to provide a magical experience for you as well as creating lifelong memories.

Important Info: The tour will start at 08:30 from outside the Scandic Ishavshotel and will last 6-7 hours. We are usually back in Tromsø at 15:30, but this is dependent on weather conditions.

We hope that you can join us on our tour to see these magnificent animals and please feel free to contact us for more information.

Best regards
